Women’s Wrestling Breaks into State Polls
Raiders make moves in second season
MOORPARK, Calif. (March 10, 2026) – In just its second year of existence, the Moorpark College women's wrestling program has earned a spot in the California Community College Women's Wrestling Association (CCCWWA) State Polls for the first time in MC history, as part of the California Community College Athletic Association (3C2A).
Announced on March 1, the Raiders broke into the rankings for the first time since the program's inception in 2025. Moorpark entered the week tied for No. 10 in the state of California as a team with six student-athletes also earning individual recognition in her respective weight class.
The Raiders had a pair of crucial competitions this week.
First, on March 4, the Moorpark team traveled to Victor Valley to compete against both Bakersfield and Victor Valley. Unfortunately, the Raiders fell short against VV by a 31-23 margin, but the bigger news came from the other match.
The at-the-time the No. T-10 Raiders defeated No. 5 Bakersfield by a 35-20 margin behind stand-out performances from Natalia Cervantes who was ranked No. 3 and defeated the No. 1 wrestler in California at 235-pounds. At 131-pounds, Emily Hernandez produced two beautiful leg laces to win while Alysia Clayton wrestled well at the 124-pound class, working hard on top in the parterre position with multiple turns, mastering the gut wrench. Wrestling at 207, up from 180, Avalynn Ramos pinned her opponent by defending a shot with a whip over straight to the competitors back for a pin within the first 30 seconds of the match.
Additionally, Valeria Fuentes Leon competed an exhibition at 235-pounds and won by pin.
Over the weekend, on March 7, Moorpark traveled to Fresno City College for the 3C2A State Dual Championships where the Raiders joined 16 of the 22 wrestling programs from across California.
Moorpark was seeded No. 4 in the Gold Bracket, which was comprised of eight teams, facing strong competition throughout the tournament. The Raiders worked hard to defeat both Santa Rosa (27-25) and East LA College (32-20) despite falling to Fresno City College (31-22). They finished the tournament fifth.
Following the success of the wrestlers at the State Dual, the Raiders climbed in the CCCWWA rankings to No. 4 in the 3C2A.

Moorpark returns to the mats next week when the Raiders host their only match of the season, a Quad with Bakersfield, Cuesta and East Los Angeles College (ELAC).
