Raiders Crowned Track & Field Champions
Moorpark runs, throws, jumps its way to first place
MOORPARK, Calif. (April 24, 2026) – The 2026 Western State Conference Championships held at Griffith Stadium on Friday under sunny skies on a perfect spring day was a meet to remember for the Raiders as the Moorpark College women's track and field team placed first to claim its 10th program WSC title.
MC combined for 182.5 points to win the meet on its home turf.
The Raiders looked to Madi Thai for 41 individual points. Not only did she win the High Jump (1.67m) and Long Jump (5.10m), but she was the WSC Runner-Up in the 400m (59.32, which was a 1.28 second season best) and placed third in Triple Jump (10.51m, a season best). She also placed fourth in the 200m (25.99) and seventh in the 100m Hurdles (16.09) in a season best time.
Additionally, Thai led off the fourth place 4x100m Relay team of Keira Wyatt, Leilah Strother and Imani Clayton that finished in 49.91 and the fifth place 4x400m Relay team of Thai, Joey Tobi, Wyatt and Reece Trice that combined to run a 4:18.17.
Wyatt won the 100m dash in 12.16 and placed second in the 200m in 25.67, a .1 second season best. She also competed in Long Jump, placing fifth with a best mark of 4.84m.
Maya Natarajan stepped up to the top of the podium in a personal best 1,500m time of 4:44.35 and went on to pace the 5,000m race, winning by nearly seven seconds in a time of 19:03.53 after lapping many runners along the way.
The distance pack of Trice, Ava Sanders and Dulce Godinez scored in the 1500m and 5,000m for the Raiders. Trice and Godinez both ran a six second season best 1500m in times of 4:59.25 and 5:12.60, respectively, while Sanders shaved seven seconds off her previous season best time to finish in 5:05.29. Godinez went on to run a giant season best 5K with a 24 second improvement to cross the line in 20:16.04. Sanders also improved on her best time, clocking a 20:07.00 to place fifth. The 1500m group added 18 points to the team total at WSC Championships and the 5K trio tallied 17 team points. Trice also ran the 800m in 2:25.01 to take fifth.
In the field, Cristal Lopez earned a first place Pole Vault finish by clearing a season best 2.90m. Teammate Nadia Smith was second in PV with a best mark of 2.55m. Lily Cohen earned three medals in the meet as the Runner-Up in the Discus (37.84m) with third place finishes in both the Javelin (28.34m) and Shot Put (12.68m). All three marks were season bests, including a .8m improvement in SP, for Cohen who supplied 20 points to the team score. Finally, joining Thai on the High Jump podium was Kaili Nguyen who took third with a best attempt of 1.50m.
The 3000m Steeplechase group of Natalia Beltran, Isabella Shattuck and Addison Pereira put up 12 team points, placing 4-5-6, respectively, in the race. Beltran notched a 10 second personal record with a time of 12:45.43 while Shattuck made giant strides with a season best 13:08.20, which was 48 seconds faster than she ran earlier in 2026.
In the longest race of the meet, the 10,000m, Keira Kassi clocked a 44:32.91 to place seventh and score points for the Raiders.
Another pair of season best performances came from Tobi with a 400m Hurdles time of 1:10.53, 3.5 seconds faster than earlier this spring, and Katelyn Aguilar who threw the Discus 1.2m further than she has all season with a best mark of 29.79m to place sixth.
Tobi also ran the 100m Hurdles in 15.95 to finish sixth. Aguilar recorded a 36.73m mark in Hammer to also place sixth. Beltran added a seventh-place finish in High Jump (1.25m) and an eighth-place performance in Javelin (24.89m).
Moorpark outscored Cuesta (151.5) for the team title, followed by West Los Angeles College (135) in third. Rounding out the team field were College of the Canyons (84), Santa Barbara (84), Allan Hancock (58), Bakersfield (36), Ventura (23), Glendale (6) and Antelope Valley (1).
The 2026 championship marks the 10th in Moorpark women's track and field program history, adding to the titles earned in 2024, 2006, 2001, 2000, 1999, 1998, 1995, 1992 and 1986. MC did also win back-to-back Mountain Valley Conference titles in 1984 and 1983 as well.
The season continues on Saturday, May 2 when qualifying members of the squad travel to Bakersfield College for the California Community College Athletic Association (3C2A) SoCal Regional Preliminaries beginning at 10:00 a.m. Anyone who placed 1-7 at WSC Championships earns an automatic bid to compete with additional athletes added by committee as announced later this week. Advancing athletes from Prelims will return to BC to compete at the 3C2A SoCal Regional Finals on Saturday, May 9 for a chance to advance to the 3C2A State Championships May 15-16 at Mt. SAC.
