Track & Field Hosts Season Opener at Moorpark’s Griffin Stadium
Thai wins Heptathlon in first MC meet
MOORPARK, Calif. (Feb. 9, 2026) – For the first time of the spring, the 2026 women's track & field team suited up for competition at the Moorpark Multi and season opener inside of Griffin Stadium.
The first event of the spring was the Heptathlon where Madi Thai shined and earned the top spot after accumulating 3879 points, a 348-point cushion over second place. The freshman won the 200m (26.83), high jump (1.60m) and long jump (5.09m) while placing second in the 100m Hurdles (17.02).
Both Kaelyn Walsh and Natalia Beltran competed in the heptathlon as well, placing seventh and eighth, respectively. Walsh was second to teammate Thai in the high jump, clearing 1.53m, and finished fourth in the long jump (4.60m). Beltran ran the 800m in 2:39.30 to take second.
Out in the field, the throwing trio had a great inaugural meet for Moorpark. Freshman Lily Cohen placed third in the discus (37.68m) and javelin (26.40m) and fourth in the hammer (36.51m) rounding out her day with a shot put best mark of 10.80m. Katelyn Aguilar was seventh in the hammer with a mark of 34.86m. Liliana Coleman placed ninth in javelin after throwing 18.81m followed by Aguilar with a mark of 18.56m for 10th.
On the track, freshman Reece Trice had a solid debut for the Raiders with a third-place finish in the 600m with a time of 1:46.26. She tied for fourth in the 1500m with a clocking of 5:22.17. Freshman Joey Tobi turned in a 60m time of 8.34 and a 60m Hurdles time of 10.28 to place eighth in each event. Cristal Lopez was the top finisher for MC in the 150m with a time of 21.43 for 12th place.
The 2,000m steeplechase saw three Raiders race with Ava Sanders finishing third in her first collegiate track race with a time of 8:21.41. Next across the line was teammate Addison Pereira (8:27.19). Isabella Shattuck produced a 9:07.46 finish for seventh.
Distance runners, Dulce Godinez, Keira Kassi and Nayelly Flores represented the Blue and White in the 3,000m.
Jumpers also had a great day for Moorpark. Nadia Smith cleared 2.45m in the pole vault to place second and Kaili Nguyen placed third with a best high jump of 1.45m.
Moorpark track and field returns action on Friday, Feb. 13 at the Riverside Community College Early Bird meet.
