MOORPARK, Calif. (Jan. 26, 2026) – The Moorpark College softball team cruised to a pair of 5-inning opening day victories, defeating LA Valley College 14-2 and 15-1, respectively, in the first two games of the 2026 season on Jan. 23 at home.
In her collegiate debut, Alyssa Morales tossed a combined 10.0 innings, earning a pair of victories in the circle while striking out 14, seven in each game.
The visiting squad opened a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning of the season opener, but the Raiders responded and never looked back. In the bottom of the first frame of the season, MC combined for six runs behind a Morgan Casillas RBI single that plated Morales who led the season off with a walk to aid her own cause. Sophomore Malia Plourde followed with a no-doubt-about-it two-run homerun. These ultimately represented the winning runs.
MC went on to add eight more scores in the third inning on a trio of hits coupled with several hit batters and walks en route to the five-inning final.
Lily Kougher and Rylee Redmond each went 2-for-2 with Kougher scoring three runs and Redmond driving in one and scoring once. Casillas and Plourde each supplied a pair of RBIs.
Game two was more of the same with the Raiders scoring one, three, five and six runs in the four offensive frames they played. Nine different players scored a run and nine different players recorded an RBI.
Sophomore Kailey Greene paced the pack with a 3-for-3 showing that included a triple, three runs scored and one RBI while Casillas and Morales both collected two hits apiece in the game as well.
Morales (2-0) did not allow an earned run in the second game.
Overall, 11 players pulled on the Blue and White for the first time. Joining Morales on the diamond at Moorpark College for her debut were freshmen Casillas, Kougher, Redmond, Riley Furnace, Daniela Isarrararas, Keira McLucas and CC Romero and sophomores, Plourde, Aryanne Munoz and Danielle Shinko.
Returning to action for the Raiders in 2026 in the series was Abrianna Ramirez, one of two returning players along with Greene.
Moorpark (2-0, 0-0 WSC) hits the road for the first time of the season on Tuesday, Jan. 27 when the Raiders travel to Long Beach for a 2:30 p.m. first pitch before hosting East Los Angeles College at home on Thursday, Jan. 29 at noon.
