Men’s Track & Field Claims Fifth Straight Team Championship
Moorpark runs, throws, jumps its way to first place
MOORPARK, Calif. (April 24, 2026) – For the fifth consecutive year, the Moorpark College men's track and field team hoisted the Western State Conference trophy after claiming the 2026 WSC Championship inside of Griffith Stadium on Friday.
The Raiders combined to score 207 team points to win the meet by exactly 100 points on its home turf.
A pair of Relay teams stepped atop the podium on Friday with the 4x400m Relay team of Blake Boucher, Brooks Smith, Nasir Enilolobo and Roman Finney finishing first in the final race of the meet with a combined 3:20.14 to outrun Ventra's quartet by .68 seconds. The 4x100m Relay team of Kamdi Umejiego, Ray Carmel, Desmond Winbush and Makhi Hooker teamed up to take the top spot in 41.47, just .06 faster than Canyons.
Earlier in the meet, Finney ran his way to a .7 second season best in the 200m to clinch gold in a time of 20.93 while Winbush took home the 400m title in a time of 47.68. The meet opened (last week) with Quion Williams winning the High Jump with a season best mark of 2.10m.
JJ Bitner earned top honors with a first place Javelin throw of 50.27m on Friday. He added season best marks in Discus (38.40m) and Long Jump (6.23m) of 5.3m and .42m, respectively, placing eighth in each. He was also fourth in the 110m Hurdles in 15.99 and placed seventh in Pole Vault (2.80m).
Carmel sprinted his way to a 100m dash Runner-Up performance in a season best time of 10.64 and placed third in the 200m after clocking a .6 second season best in 21.36. Nasir Enilolobo placed second in the 400m Hurdles with a one second season best time of 53.56 and Tyler Kratt Pole Vaulted his way into second place by clearing 4.0m.
Representing Moorpark in multiple events, Tommy White earned second place in the 5K (15:08.31) and went on to run a nine second personal record in the 1500m to place third in 3:57.27. Last week he also ran the 10k, placing second in 32:57.54.
Distance teammate Trent Williams posted points for the team as well, finishing third in the 5K (15:09.59, which was a 12 second season best), third in the 10k (33:00.19) and fourth in the 1500m (4:00.45).
Another distance runner who turned in solid performances for the Raiders was freshman Chris Brady-Brenton who placed third in the 3k Steeplechase in 10:06.19. He also finished fourth in the 10k with a race time of 33:41.62 and turned in a season best time of 15:52, a 24 second improvement, in the 5K to place seventh.
Brooks Smith hurdled his way to a .64 second season best time of 54.75 in the 400m Hurdles to place third while Malikai Bowens had a season best mark of 14.09m in Triple Jump to also take home third place honors.
The distance group showed its depth with numerous competitors and many personal best times. Andres Uribe posted a 30 second personal record in the 3k Steeplechase in 10:54.88 to place 10th. Russell Benner, Angel Garcia and Reyes Gonzales all had 1500m season bests. Benner placed sixth in the 1500m in 4:08.34, a two second improvement and Garcia finished in 4:12.04, also a two second improvement, while Gonzales shaved off six seconds for a time of 4:16.77. Isaiah Bergara recorded a 5k time of 16:12.53, which was a four second season best.
Another season best in the meet came from Blake Boucher whose prelims time of 49.05 in the 400m was a 2.2 second improvement in his time this spring. He placed fourth in the 400m final in 49.70.
Hooker ran a 10.75 100m dash to place fourth with teammate Kamdi Umejiego placing eighth in 10.91. Winbush put up a 22.86 200m time. The 800m race saw Theo Shniderman place fifth in 2:00.28 to score for the team as well.
In the javelin, Brooks Smith (45.94m) and Teagan Neron (43.72m) scored for the Blue and White. The duo of Carter Pease and Uribe both added to the team tally for MC in Pole Vault, placing fifth and sixth, after each clearing 3.10m.
The 2026 championship marks the 16th title in Moorpark men's track and field program history, adding to the titles earned in 2025, 2024, 2023, 2022, 2009, 2008, 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004, 2003, 2002, 2001, 1993 and 1971. MC also won back-to-back Mountain Valley Conference titles in 1984 and 1983 as well.
This year, the Raiders were joined on the podium by College of the Canyons (107) and Cuesta (103) while the field being rounded out by Bakersfield (86). Allan Hancock (83), Ventura (48), Santa Monica (42). West Los Angeles (42), Antelope Valley College (25), Santa Barbara City (20) and Glendale (17).
The season continues on Saturday, May 2 when qualifying members of the squad travel to Bakersfield College for the California Community College Athletic Association (3C2A) SoCal Regional Preliminaries beginning at 10:00 a.m. Anyone who placed 1-7 at WSC Championships earns an automatic bid to compete with additional athletes added by committee as announced later this week. Advancing athletes from Prelims will return to BC to compete at the 3C2A SoCal Regional Finals on Saturday, May 9 for a chance to advance to the 3C2A State Championships May 15-16 at Mt. SAC.
