Men’s Basketball Earns Postseason and Host Bid
Raiders qualify to 3C2A Championship Tournament
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Feb. 22, 2026) – The Moorpark College men's basketball program learned today that it has been selected to play in the California Community College Athletic Association (3C2A) State Championship Tournament, as the No. 14 seed.
Not only did the Raiders receive a bid, they also earned an opportunity to host the Southern California Regional First Round game. Moorpark (19-9) will suit up at Raider Pavilion on Wednesday, Feb. 25 against No. 19 Irvine Valley (16-12) where the teams will tip off at 7:00 p.m.
Moorpark averaged 79.5 points per game (2225 total points) during the 28 regular season contests. They shot 43.1 percent from the floor and 33.8 percent from behind the arc. Free throw shooting was a struggle, hitting just 69.5 percent of their opportunities this winter. The Raiders handed out a collective 17.2 assists per game. Defensively, the group tallied 39.4 rebounds per contest with 7.8 steals per game (14.3 turnovers per game), and 2.9 blocks per game. The Raiders held their opposition to 71.6 points and 39.3 rebounds per game, respectively.
Leading the way this winter were Josh Castaniero, who logged a team-high 764 minutes (28.3 per game), 4.9 assists per game and 1.5 steals per game, Eric Kubel, who finished with 14.0 points per game and a 37.3 three-point shooting percentage (75-for-201), Dominique Brutus, who turned in a 66.1 shooting percentage (66-for-108) and 5.0 rebounds per game and Jake Field, the top free-throw shooter, hitting 25-for-28 (89.3 percent). Brutus and Castaniero shared the team-lead with .7 blocks per game.
Irvine Valley, of the Orange Empire Conference, is coming off an 84-69 loss to Fullerton. The Lasers averaged 68.1 points per game with a field goal percentage of 43.6 in the regular season. They averaged 14.8 assists per game and 13.0 turnovers per game. IVC pulled down 34.6 rebounds per game, adding 6.3 steals per game and 1.7 blocks per game. Overall, the team allowed 66.9 points per game and 33.6 rebounds per game.
The team has been led by Matt Mowers with 15.3 points per game on a shooting percentage of 58.1, 6.6 rebounds per game (166) and 2.4 assists per game (59). Ahmad Alhammouri averages 13.9 points per game (137-for-236) and has been a three-point threat, hitting 38.1 percent (56-for-147). Defensively, look for Santos Cordero (1.0 steal per game) and Zano Calastas (10 blocks) to attempt to disrupt things.
Moorpark has won four straight games entering the postseason and earned its fourth consecutive 3C2A postseason appearance. The Raiders look to advance out of the Southern California Regional for the first time in that span.
Admission prices are $12 for adults (13+) and $8 for students, faculty, staff, senior citizens, military veterans and children (5-12).
