Borick and Hazelton's season ends in pool play at the 3C2A State Beach Pairs Championships
The #2 South seeded duo of Prior Borick and Grace Hazelton's season came to and end in pool play at the 3C2A State Beach Pairs Championships.
Borick and Hazelton along with 3 other teams picked up a forfeit win when the 4th team in the pool, Long Beach City, withdrew from the tournament before competition had started.
With a win in their pocket, they took on the duo of Candance Ceballos and Madeline Castillo of Mt Sac, whom they defeated a week earlier at So Cals, to open the day. Borick and Hazelton won set 1 21-17 but fell in set 2, 16-21 forcing a 3rd set. in the 3rd, the Mountie duo raced out to a big lead and Borick and Hazelton could not respond, falling 7-15.
Sitting at 1-1, Borick and Hazelton would need help from the Mt SAC duo to defeat the the #7 duo from Feather River if they hoped to move onto day 2 and the quarterfinals. Feather River ended up defeating and leaving the the mountie duo at 2-1 in pool play.
With the Raider duo (1-1) still needing to play Feather River (2-0) a win would create a 3 way with the 3 teams sitting at 2-1 and would force the pool into tiebreaking criteria. Even with a second win, the Raider duo would sit at #3 in pool results after the tiebreaker is put into play.
Playing for pride, Borick and Hazelton dropped set one to Feather River 16-21 before taking set two 21-19. The Golden Eagle duo ended match taking set three by a score of 12-15.
