Volleyball Stretches Win Streak to Four
Raiders sweeps Bakersfield in non-conference action
MOORPARK, Calif. (Sept. 17, 2025) – Inside the Moorpark College Gymnasium on Wednesday evening, the women’s volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 sweep of Bakersfield to push its win-streak to four matches. The Raiders have won six of their last seven since the calendar page flipped to September. MC is 14 contests into its 2025 campaign with just two more non-conference tune-ups before league play begins.
With the bleachers packed, the Raiders controlled the first game, winning 25-14. The second and third sets were closer, but the momentum swung in favor of the home team on several long rallies as the squad secured 25-22 and 25-21 victories, respectively. Freshman Laila Velu hit at a strong .632 clip, connecting for 12 kills in 19 swings without an error. Hailey Byron and Olivia Campisi added seven kills apiece while Daylin Saiki dished out 29 assists. MC combined for 11 service aces, led by five from Kaylin Currie and a trio from Mia Paculan. Defensively, Saiki also led the way with 10 digs while Currie tallied eight and Paculan contributed seven. Byron recorded three solo blocks.
Through 14 matches, the Raiders average 10.08 kills per set, 8.45 assists per set, 2.57 aces per set, 15.14 digs per set and 1.22 blocks per set. Sixteen different players have stepped on the court for Moorpark this fall.
Genessa Johnson leads the way with 115 kills followed by Juda Washington with 93. Velu rounds out the top-three with 81. Saiki has 368 assists as the primary setter. From the service line, Currie has notched 36 aces with Saiki serving up 24 so far.
At the net, Johnson also leads the way with 10 solo blocks, adding 20 block assists. Byron is next in line with both eight solo stops and 13 assists. Callie Stankovich has recorded 12 block assists, adding a pair of solo blocks. Five players have accumulated more than 100 digs apiece, including Paculan (134), Currie (127), Saiki (116), Natsune Makino (113) and Velu (112).
The most recent victory follows wins over Mira Costa (3-2), El Camino (3-0) and Long Beach (3-1). The Raiders have also defeated Grossmont (3-2), Pasadena City (3-1), Sierra (3-0), Fullerton (3-0) and a season opening win over Irvine Valley (3-0) to date this season.
Moorpark (9-5, 0-0 WSC) travels to Santa Monica on Friday, Sept. 19 for a 6:00 p.m. first serve.
