Raiders Rewind: March 23-April 20, 2026
Final stretch for spring sports upon us
MOORPARK, Calif. (April 20, 2026) – While most of the Moorpark College community enjoyed had a week off for spring break in late March and early April, the Raiders student-athletes were in action battling on the fields, track and court. The last month has brought about numerous highlights and the conclusion of a season while Championship play, Regional and State competition looms for others.
Baseball (11-27 5-17 WSC)
Moorpark has posted a quartet of wins between March 31 and today, taking down Cuesta (10-8), Oxnard (3-2), Ventura (8-6) in 10 innings and, most recently, LA Pierce (8-6).
MC stole a 10-8 win in the opener of a three-game series with Cuesta College at the end of March. The Raiders jumped out to a 7-0 lead after the first two innings on a two-RBI triple from Jaden Onaca in the first frame. The second inning saw Buddy Onoszko driving in one before both Cyrus Javadi and Chris Hemphill connected for two-RBI doubles to give MC a 7-0 advantage. An error allowed two runs to cross the plate in the sixth before Jaydrien Klein-Baker hit a solo homerun in the ninth.
Cody Burrow (2-0) got his second win of the season in a 3-2 victory over Oxnard on April 10. He tossed 5.1 innings, striking out one and scattering four hits. Joshua Brown drove in the first pair with a two-RBI single to left and Hemphill lifted a sacrifice fly to score Aiden Gomez with the ultimate game winning run on the road.
In a 10-inning thriller on the road last week (April 16), the Raiders stormed back from a 3-0 deficit and plated four in the eighth to knot things up at 6-6 and send the game into extras. A bases loaded hit batter got the rally going before Gabriel Flores drove in two on a single. Onaca also aided the scoring with a sacrifice fly that plated Ty Nicolay in the eighth. Moorpark dug deep in the 10th, starting things with back-to-back-to-back singles from Onaca, Hemphill and Klein-Baker with the last scoring Onaca with the go-ahead run. The next two batters drew walks, resulting in an insurance run. Greg Lopez (3-4) earned the win after tossing 2.2 innings in relief, striking out a pair.
On Saturday, the Raiders rallied for a six-run seventh to erase a 6-2 deficit and steal the win, the first of the season for Colin Dominguez. Alex Van and Nicolay scored twice apiece and Jaxson Herron drove in two.
Moorpark closes out the season this week with a home game, sophomore day, on Thursday, April 23 at 2:00 p.m. before hitting the road for one final time in 2026 on Friday when the Raiders play at Oxnard with first pitch set for 2:00 p.m.
Women's Beach Volleyball (16-6, 9-3 WSC)
Moorpark beach volleyball hosted sophomore day for four Raiders on Friday, April 10, enjoying a pair of shutout victories over Cuesta and Glendale. MC rounded out the regular season with a 16-6 mark and a 9-3 conference showing. Moorpark sits second in the WSC standings behind Santa Barbara (11-1 WSC) as the playoff picture comes into focus.
Overall, 34 pairs played into the 2026 WSC Pairs Bracket with five teams representing the Blue and White on Friday, April 17. No. 2 Alesia Thomas and Natsune Makino earned a first-round bye and could face off with teammates No. 15 Daylin Saiki and Kaylin Currie in the Sweet 16. No. 6. Laila Velu and Eva Velarde also have a bye to open play. Both pairs of No. 21 Natalia Galstian and Hailey Byron and No. 25 Ela Lagatutta and Olivia Campisi have to play their way into the bracket. Results were unavailable at the time of this release.
The team waits to learn its fate in the 3C2A So Cal Regional Championships, which are scheduled to be played on Tuesday, April 28 at a time and location yet to be announced.
Softball (16-15, 10-2WSC)
Softball has gone 6-2 since March 24 with wins over Santa Barbara, twice, (11-8 and 14-0), Cuesta (14-6), Santa Monica (24-2), Oxnard (10-2) and Allan Hancock (6-1) while dropping a pair to LA Mission (10-2) and Ventura (9-1) in a pair of 6-inning games.
The Raiders sit at second in the WSC North standings behind Ventura (11-0), the team that handed MC its only two WSC losses to date.
In league action, Morgan Casillas is leading the way offensively with a .526 batting average that includes 20 hits in 38 at-bats with 10 extra base hits for a .947 slugging percentage. Lily Kougher has a team-high 12 extra-base hits in her 20 total for 44 total bases and a .978 slugging percentages. Kougher has launched six homeruns while Casillas has three. Alyssa Morales has connected for a team-high 21 hits and both Kailey Greene and Riley Furnace has two homeruns. Kougher is also leading the way with 22 RBIs, followed by 18 from Casillas, 16 from Furnace and 15 from Greene. Furnace, Greene and Kougher have each scored 18 times.
In the circle, Morales is 4-2 in 31.1 innings while Abrial Ramirez is 5-0 in 35.0 innings of WSC play. Morales has tallied 26 strike outs with Ramirez recording 20 in league action.
Defensively, Greene has 75 putouts at first base with Isarrararas next in line with 23, adding a pair of assists, including a runner caught stealing. Both Kougher and Rylee Redmond have 17 putouts without an error for 1.000 fielding percentages through 12 conference contests.
Moorpark has three games remaining in the 2026 season with a pair of road games before a home finale against Mt. San Jacinto on Thursday, April 23 at 2:30 p.m.
Men's Track & Field
Moorpark has suited up several times this spring preparing for the WSC Championships, which will take place on Friday, April 24 at Moorpark College.
On March 31 and April 1, MC sent JJ Bittner and Andrew Uribe to compete at the Decathlon hosted by Cuesta College where the freshman, Bittner, placed fourth with a total of 6076 points. Bittner's best finishes of the day came in Shot Put (3rd) at 11.22m, 110 Hurdles (3rd) in 15.70 and Javelin (4th) at 47.25m (with three other 5th place finishes) while Uribe was second in the 1500m with a time of 4:43.37.
The Moorpark Open featured hundreds of athletes and many season best times and marks were met. Full results are available here. Moorpark also traveled to the Mt. SAC Relays where the Raiders had a strong showing. Results can be found here.
Most recently, student-athletes represented MC at the WSC Preliminaries last weekend at the College of the Canyons where 17 athletes qualified to compete in seven different finals events this coming Friday at home. Additionally, the Raiders scored points for the overall team tally. Quion Williams won the High Jump (2.10m) and added points in the Long Jump. Malikai Bowens and Mandell Anthony also added points in LJ. Five runners placed in the Top-8 of the 10,000m including Tommy White, Trent Williams, Christian Brady-Brenton, Hezekiah Bergara and Angel Garcia. Bittner placed in the LJ and Discus.
WSC season wraps up beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 24 inside of Griffin Stadium. Postseason competition will follow for those who qualify.
Women's Track & Field
The women's track and field season has been one of great growth and success as the squad prepares for the postseason. The team hosted the Moorpark Invitation on April 3 and the Raiders have been working hard to prepare for the 2026 Western State Conference Championships this Friday on April 24 at home.
At the Cuesta College So Cal Heptathlon on March 31 and April 1, Moorpark freshman Madison Thai placed third with a combined 3953 points to finish as the top first-year competitor despite not scoring at all in one event. She won the 200m in 26.09 and placed second in the Shot Put (9.60m) and Long Jump (5.15m) while finishing third in the High Jump (1.52m).

On Friday, April 17 the Raiders traveled to the College of the Canyons for the WSC Preliminaries at which Thai took home two first place finishes for MC in the Long Jump (5.10m) and High Jump (1.67m). Kaili Nguyen (High Jump), Lily Cohen (Shot Put), Keira Wyatt (Long Jump), Natalia Beltran (High Jump) and Keira Kassi (10,000m) all added team points as well.
This week, 10 athletes will compete in seven different events for the Raiders in championship races and events. Competition begins at 11 a.m. inside of Griffin Stadium.
Men's Volleyball (11-11, 7-7 conference)
Moorpark wrapped up its 2026 campaign on April 10 when the Raiders took down Antelope Valley College, 3-1, on Sophomore Night. Recap here.
Women's Wrestling
The Raiders have competed at the Mt. SAC Open, Cuesta College Quad and the ELAC Open since our last Raiders Rewind. A 26-24 victory over Lemoore included a first collegiate win from Erika Martinez and a deciding victory from Valeria Fuentes Leon at 235-pounds. Leading 25-20, she scored a two-point takedown and stayed in great position, not giving up a pin, to save the dual for the Raiders. With the win, Moorpark moved into the third spot in the SECWA Conference behind No. 1 Victor Valley and No. 2 Cuesta.
Moorpark women's wrestling is preparing to compete at the 2026 3C2A State Championships on May 2 at Fresno City College. As of the latest rankings, MC sits at No. 9 in the State with the following wrestlers ranked individually as well.
