Conference play heats up for Raiders
MOORPARK, Calif. (March 23, 2026) – As the temperatures soared in Southern California, conference action has done the same for the Moorpark College Raiders with seven teams active down the home stretch into the midway point of the spring semester.
Women's Basketball (26-4, 12-0 WSC)
Women's Basketball advanced to the Round of 16 in the 3C2A Southern California Regional Final on March 7, but came up short, dropping a 66-55 decision to Cypress, which ended the 2025-26 Raiders campaign.
The trio of Maleyni Tolliver, Hannah Lising and Keilani Peralta was selected to the 3C2A All-State Team.
The final California Community College Women's Basketball Coaches Association (CCCWBCA) State Poll of the season placed Moorpark at No. 9.
Baseball (7-20 1-11 WSC)
A 12-game skid was snapped on Saturday, March 21 when the Raiders knocked off Coalinga 4-3 on a Ty Nicolay, two-out, full count, bases loaded, walk off single just after Jadrien Baker-Klein drew a walk to score Nick Pacella with the tying run. Greg Lopez earned the win, tossing 2.1 innings in relief, scatting two hits and not allowing a run in the nine batters he faced.
MC played to another pair of one-run games in March with a 2-1 loss to Allan Hancock and a 10-inning, 8-7, loss to Coalinga. Additionally, the Raiders played close with Pierce, falling 6-4, twice.
Moorpark closes out non-conference action on Saturday, March 28 when the Blue and White travel to Cerro Coso for a 1:00 p.m. first pitch before returning to WSC play on Tuesday, March 31 at Cuesta.
Women's Beach Volleyball (10-6, 3-3 WSC)
After a tough start to March with a pair of league losses to Ventura (L, 3-2) and Santa Monica (L, 5-0), the Raiders bounced back to split on March 13, defeating Cuesta 5-0, despite falling to Santa Barbara 4-1. Most recently, Moorpark put up a pair of league wins over Ventura (W, 4-1) and Bakersfield (W, 5-0) to even their conference record with three weeks to play.
The first weekend of March saw No. 4's Laila Velu and Eva Velarde win 21-15, 21-11 against VC while the No. 5's followed suit with a 21-18, 21-14 victory from Ela Lagatutta and Juda Washington.
In mid-March, the Raiders swept past Cuesta and stole one set from Santa Barbara as No. 1's Alesia Thomas and Natsune Makino battled to a three-set 22-20, 21-23, 15-11 win.
Last Friday, Moorpark started the day with a 4-1 victory over VC in which the No. 1 pair of Thomas and Makino won 21-18, 21-12. No. 2, Velarde and Velu, dug out of an early deficit for a 20-22, 21-16, 15-7 victory. At No. 4 Daylin Saiki and Natalia Galstian worked to a 21-18, 21-13 win and finally, the No. 5 duo of Olivia Campisi and Lagatutta teamed up for a three-set, 21-12, 17-21, 15-5 victory. Later in the day, MC rolled past Bakersfield as No. 1, 2, 4 and 5 all won again with No. 3 Kaylin Currie and Hailey Byron playing to a 21-18, 21-19 win.
The Raiders return to action on Friday, March 27 when MC hosts Santa Barbara and Glendale at 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., respectively.
Softball (10-13, 4-1WSC)
March has brought some big wins and some tough losses for the Raiders. MC has worked its way to a 4-1 WSC showing with 5-inning, mercy rule victories over Cuesta (15-7), Santa Monica (16-0) and Allan Hancock (15-0) while also defeating Oxnard, 8-2. The lone WSC loss came to Ventura (8-3). Recap from a 3-0 start here.
MC battled back from a 7-2 deficit to defeat Cuesta thanks to a Daniela Isarrararas two-run, ultimate game-winning, homerun to break a 7-7 score and put the Raiders up 9-7. Moorpark tacked on RBI singles from Abrianna Ramirez, Riley Furnace and Kailey Greene before Morgan Casillas capped it all off with a three-run homerun in the fifth to win 15-7.
Casillas continued her offensive tear against Santa Monica, accounting for six RBIs and a pair of runs during a 3-for-4 day at the plate that included a pair of homeruns. Abriel Ramirez picked up her first win of the season from the circle. She struck out two and scattered a single hit in 4.0 innings.
Against Oxnard, Casillas again made the difference, reaching base a trio of times in four chances, driving in three runs and swiping two bases. All other eight players in the lineup scored once. Aryanne Munoz contributed with a 2-RBI day and recorded the only extra base hit in the game with a double in the top of the fourth. Morales earned the win, striking out five.
More long balls made the difference against Allan Hancock. Isarrararas connected for a two-run homerun in the first innings to ultimately win the game before adding a grand slam in her next at-bat. Greene and Lily Kougher each had 3-for-4 days at the plate. Seven different players had at least one RBI. Kougher, Munoz and Abrianna Ramirez drove in two runs apiece and Casillas, Greene, Furnace and Rylee Redmond each scored twice apiece as well. Morales tossed a complete 5.0 inning shutout allowing just one hit, with one walk and five strike outs.
Moorpark hopes to snap a three-game losing skid at Santa Barbara on Tuesday, March 24 for a 2:00 p.m. first pitch.
Men's Track & Field
Moorpark competed in preseason meets throughout February and into the start of March before the Raiders opened league action at the WSC Coastal on Friday, March 20 at the College of the Canyons.
MC ran fast and took six of the top seven 100m dash spots with Roman Finney winning in 10.78. Makhi Hooker was third in 10.99 followed by Ray Carmel (11.01), Kamdi Umejiego (11.06), Mandell Anthony (11.27) and Johnny Tampi (11.42). In a close 200m race, Desmond Winbush was a hair off the lead in 22.01 steps ahead of teammates Hooker (22.15) and Carmel (22.17). Winbush went on to win the 400m race in 47.68. The top 800m runner from MC was Theo Shniderman whose time of 1:58.93 was less than six tenths of a second behind the winning time. Distance runners Trent Williams, Russell Benner and Angel Garcia finished 3-4-5 in 4:13.31, 4:16.75 and 4:16.96, respectively in the 1500m.
Relays for the Raiders were great with Winbush, Hooker, Umejiego and Powell Williams teaming up to win the 4x100m in 42.33 while Dominic Perez, Enilolobo, Winbush and Finney joined forces to take the top spot in 3:19.41 in the 4x400m Realy.
Hurdling, JJ Bittner was second in the 110m Hurdles with a race of 15.60 and Brooks Smith went on to place second in the 57.67 just ahead of teammate Nasir Enilolobo (58.25).
Jumping for MC, Tyler Kratt won Pole Vault, clearing 3.95m and Bittner and Andres Uribe each cleared 2.75m. Anthony won the Long Jump with a best mark of 6.55m. Perez placed second in the Triple Jump at 12.79m. Quion Williams High Jumped 1.90m to take first.
Out in the field, the throwers also had successful showings. Bittner and Teagan Neron finished first and second in Javelin. Bittner recorded a mark at 52.57m while Neron had a best attempt of 45.47m. Logan Clarke won Hammer at 35.19m ahead of Angel Ortega who had a best mark of 34.21m. Alex Rivera placed fifth in Discus with a best throw of 33.95m and he was also the top MC finisher in Shot Put at 10.64m for sixth.
Moorpark men's track & field is undefeated at 5-0 against WSC opponents this spring.
The Raiders have one more weekend of competition before returning home to host the Moorpark Invitational on Friday, April 3.
Women's Track & Field
On Friday, March 20, the Women's Track & Field Team opened league competition at the WSC Coastal at the College of the Canyons following successful preparation at numerous non-conference meets in February and early March.
Sprinting for the Raiders, Keira Wyatt placed second in the 100m in 12.57 with teammate Leilah Strother placing sixth in 13.59. The duo went on to compete the 200m, finishing in 26.75 and 27.73, respectively, to place third and fourth. Madison Thai posted a 1:01.88 time to take third in the 400m with Cristal Lopez finishing in 1:12.07.
Moorpark had a quartet toe the line in the 800m with Reece Trice (2:26.75), Ava Sanders (2:38.40), Dulce Godinez (2:39.84) and Marisol Mohedano (2:47.33) all running for the Raiders. Trice (5:09.54), Sanders (5:28.15) and Godinez (5:32.61) also went on to race the 1500m in the meet. Trice took third in each race.
The Raiders dominated the 3000m race with six of the top seven finishes. Maya Natarajan led the pack with a time of 11:29.25, followed by Addison Pereira (12:05.17), Isabella Shattuck (12:35.52), Keira Kassi (12:42.37), Nayelly Flores (12:49.46) and Valeria Reyes (13:24.90) all suiting up for MC.
Hurdling for Moorpark were Joey Tobi and Thai who finished in 15.83 and 16.66 for second and fourth, respectively in the 100m Hurdles race. At the 400m hurdles distance, Tobi took third in 1:14.14 with Natalia Beltran racing in 1:16.32.
Jumping for the Blue and White, Thai took home first in the High Jump, clearing 1.60m with teammate Kaili Nguyen successfully jumping 1.45m to take second. Beltran also competed, with a best jump of 1.25m. At the long jump pit. Thai again took top honors with a best mark of 5.15m. Wyatt was third with a 4.50m mark.
Katelyn Aguilar took top honors in Hammer with a 34.53m throw ahead of Lily Cohen whose mark of 32.27m placed third. Liliana Coleman also tossed Hammer, finished with a best mark of 20.21m. Cohen was the Shot Put champion of the day as the only thrower to surpass 10m with a mark of 10.83m. Aguilar finished fourth with a 9.06m showing. Thai competed and had a best attempt of 8.82m. Coleman rounded out the group at 5.90m. Again, Cohen earned first in the Discus with a solid 35.65m throw. Aguilar was fifth with a 25.07m attempt and Coleman marked at 19.74m. Finally, Cohen (26.31m), Aguilar (25.34m), Beltran (22.70m), Strother (20.78m), Coleman (19.80m) and Thai (18.21m) all threw Javelin in a giant field of 20.
The Raiders are currently undefeated in WSC action at 5-0.
Next weekend, the Raiders remain on the road before returning to host the Moorpark Invitational on Friday, April 3.
Men's Volleyball (8-8, 4-4 WSC)
Moorpark has gone 4-2 in March with conference wins over El Camino (W, 3-0), Fullerton (W, 3-1), LA Pierce (W, 3-0) and Antelope Valley (W, 3-0) and 3-0 losses to Santa Barbara and Long Beach.
MC used a 27-25 first set win over El Camino to propel the Raiders to a 3-0 sweep (27-25, 25-14, 25-21) behind a 16-kill performance from Owen Peterson who hit .448 in the match. Oliver Boton handed out 25 assists and Chase Patterson tallied seven block assists.
In a 3-1 win over Fullerton, both Nicolas Songco (17) and Sean Nelson (14) collected double figure kills with .306 and .343 hitting percentages, respectively. Boton totaled 42 assists, Sean Ogle had 10 digs and Reagan Sager finished with seven block assists.
At LA Pierce, MC battled to end things in three sets with a 25-17, 25-20, 28-26 win. MC hit .545 in the first set. Overall, Nelson notched 14 kills, hitting .440 in the match with Boton recording 43 assists.
Last week, in the AVC win, eight different Raiders recorded a kill and nine different players notched a dig. Boton again led the way with 19 assists, Peterson and Jackson Riepe had a pair of service aces apiece.
Moorpark is on the road on Wednesday, March 25 at Santa Monica for a 6:00 p.m. first serve where the Raiders look to avenge an earlier season loss (3-1).
Women's Wrestling
The women's wrestling team has had an historic start to the season with a first-ever state team ranking as well as individual rankings. After a strong showing at the Victor Valley Tri-Dual, the Raiders moved up in the poll.
At home, for the only match of the season, Moorpark took down ELAC 35-20 with big wins at 160 from Vanessa Small-Navaro and 117 from Simoneta Zickeviciute. Despite a 25-25 final, MC lost to Cuesta.
On Saturday, March 21, the team traveled to the Bakersfield Open where the Raiders again had a strong performance, placing fifth.
Avalynn Ramos placed first in the 207-weight class and earned the upper weights Tournament MVP, which were both program firsts. A freshman out of Ventura, Calif., battled to her title. Down by points, she seemed to have come up with a pin, but the referee waived it off, forcing the match to continue. Ramos reset and came right back with a winning-pin to take it.
Also turning in respectable performances were Valeria Fuentes (2nd place – 235) and a trio of fourth place finishes from Alondra Avila (110), Alysia Mikayla Clayton (124) and Zickeviciute (117)
Moorpark is back on the mats at the Mt. SAC Open on March 28. Wrestling begins at 10 a.m.
