Winning ways continue for MC
MOORPARK, Calif. (Feb. 13, 2026) –Western State Conference (WSC) basketball action is red-hot with both the men's and women's teams in the hunt for a league title while the spring sports are finding a rhythm on the court, field and track. Heavy rains expected early this week may force changes in outdoor sports schedules. Be sure to check the website for updates as they become available. Read for more updates below.
Men's Basketball (17-9, 8-2 WSC)
The second half of conference play began with a tough five-point loss to Ventura but the Raiders turned it all around with back-to-back victories on Feb. 7 and 11 with wins over Cuesta (95-68) and Allan Hancock (77-71), respectively. The Raiders looked to Noah Cotton for career-highs of 30 points and three steals with nine rebounds in the win against Cuesta. Eric Kubel tallied 20 points and Dominique Brutus scored 13 points on a perfect 6-for-6 shooting performance from the floor with six rebounds against Cuesta. Jake Field chipped in 15 points and Josh Castaniero handed out 10 assists in the victory.
For the efforts of the squad, Moorpark has broken into the CCCMBCA top-30 poll at No. 28 announced on Feb. 15. Conference foe, Allan Hancock, sits one spot back at No. 29. Ventura is No.5.
With two games to play in the regular season, MC is on the road on Wednesday, Feb. 18 before returning to the Raiders Pavilion for sophomore night on Friday, Feb. 20 against LA Pierce at 5:00 p.m.
Women's Basketball (23-3, 10-0 WSC)
For a dozen games straight, the Moorpark College women's basketball team has walked off the court victorious. One big reason why is WSC player of the month (January) Maleyni Tolliver who has led the way numerous times this season. The Raiders moved up to No. 4 in the latest CCCWBCA poll released today.
In a 75-55 win over Ventura, Tolliver scored 27 points on 10-for-11 shooting from the floor and a 7-for-8 showing at the free-throw line. She shared a game-high of eight rebounds with teammate Hannah Lising. Keilani Peralta also scored 22 points in the victory. On Feb. 7 in a 64-33 overpowering of Cuesta, Lising posted 17-points, while Peralta finished with 14, Tolliver chipped in 12 and Mia Matautia scored 11. A blowout against Allan Hancock saw the Raiders score 89, limiting the visitors to 33 on a night when all five starters scored in double figures. Lising notched a double-double with 13 points and 10 assists while Dayzia Mendoza led all players with 18 points. Tolliver scored 17 (and was a rebound shy of a double-double with nine), Peralta scored 15 and Aly Taufaasau added 12.
Moorpark travels to Oxnard on Wednesday, Feb. 18 for a tip-off at 7:00 p.m. before returning to Raiders Pavilion at 7:00 p.m. for sophomore night against LA Mission.
Baseball (5-7, 0-0 WSC)
February has proved a challenging slate for the MC baseball program through Feb. 14 with a 2-4 showing in the month. The victories came at Compton (13-6) and versus East LA College (6-4) on Feb. 12. Against Compton Ty Nicolay and Buddy Onoszko went 3-for-4 with three runs and an RBI and 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs, respectively, while Chris Hemphill drove in five, with three coming on a homerun in the eighth. Braden Huber picked up his second win of the season after tossing 4.1 innings with four strike outs. Against ELAC, Moorpark looked to Jaydrien Klein-Baker for a game-winning RBI single, driving in Gabriel Flores, in the bottom of the eighth to break up a 4-4 tie. Hemphill added an RBI double of his own, which plated Klein-Baker with an insurance run. Kenny Montgomery earned the win.
Wet weather early in the week has preemptively altered the baseball schedule. The Raiders look to bounce back as Western State Conference (WSC) play begins at Santa Barbara City College on Saturday, Feb. 21. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
Women's Beach Volleyball (5-1, 0-0 WSC)
The Raiders started the season with back-to-back wins over Long Beach (3-2) and Mt. San Jacinto (5-0) before falling for the first and only time to date this season, 4-1 at the hands of Grossmont. MC rallied back to win the last three straight, defeating Irvine Valley, El Camino and Cerritos each with 5-0 victories. The pair of Alesia Thomas and Natsune Makino was named January Women's Beach Volleyball Athlete of the Month by the WSC. The Raiders look to continue their winning ways as they reach the mid-way point of February action.
Moorpark returns to the court on Feb. 18 when the team travels to Mt. San Jacinto for a double-header against Eagles and San Diego Miramar.
Softball (5-5, 0-0 WSC)
Through five games in February so far, Moorpark has posted a 2-3 record with a 9-8 victory over Bakersfield before splitting with Antelope Valley, winning 7-6 despite dropping a 14-4 decision on Feb. 10.
A giant rally from the Raiders in the bottom of the seventh against Bakersfield helped to eliminate an 8-2 deficit and send the squads into extra innings. Rylee Redmond drew a leadoff walk and Lily Kougher moved the runner up with an infield single before Riley Furnace launched a three-run homerun to cut the scoring gap to 8-5. Abrianna Ramirez stepped up to the plate and promptly connected for a pinch-hit homerun making it a back-to-back showing and closing the differential to two. With two down in the inning, Kailey Greene walked and Daniela Isarrarar brought both Raiders around with a two-run homerun to tie things at 8-8, capping off a six-run, three homerun inning. After a scoreless top of the eighth for the Renegades, MC struck once more to put the game in the books when Redmond scored the winning run. Keira McLucas earned her first win the season, tossing the final 1.1 innings for MC after Alyssa Morales threw the first 6.2.
In the most recent victory, Morales went all 7.0 innings from the circle, recording six strike outs in her fourth win of the spring. Moorpark used a three-run third and a four-run fourth and held on during a late AVC rally to secure the 7-6 win. Kougher continued her stellar spring as she went 2-for-4 with four RBIs and a run. The Raiders combined for five doubles, two from Kougher with one apiece from Morales, Morgan Casillas and Aryanne Munoz.
A wave of wet weather has forced Moorpark to modify its schedule. MC will return to the diamond on Thursday, Feb. 19 against Long Beach if the field is deemed playable. First pitch is currently scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
Men's Track & Field
The men's track and field team opened 2026 action on Feb. 6-7 at home when the Raiders hosted the Moorpark Season Opener. The decathlon saw JJ Bittner place second for the men. The jumpers and distance runners had great meets as well. The second meet of the season, at the Riverside Community College Early Bird Meet, saw some more wonderful performances. For the second straight week Quion Williams won the high jump, on attempts, clearing 2.0m and sharing the top height with Mt. SAC freshman Ja'Len Taylor. Malikai Bowens, a 2025 Regional Finalist, placed fourth in the long jump with a personal best jump of 6.75m. Bowens also triple jumped 12.86m. Angel Orgeta produced a personal best hammer throw of 32.36m to finish one spot back from teammate Logan Clarke (32.44m). Clarke used a nine-inch improvement in the shot put from a week ago to lead the way for the Raiders with a mark of 10.29m. Women's Track & Field
Members of the women's track and field team suited up at home for the first time of the spring at the Moorpark Season Opener on Feb. 6-7. The heptathlon, an event only competed a handful of times throughout the spring, saw a top finish from Madison Thai. Most recently, the throwers had a great showing at the Riverside Community College Early Bird Meet where Lily Cohen threw a personal record shot put of 11.69m to place fourth. The shot put mark was a two-foot, 11-inch improvement from the season opener. She went on to place fifth in both the javelin (28.31m) and discus (33.42m). Both Katelyn Aguilar and Liliana Coleman recorded improved throws as well. Most notably, Aguilar threw the discus over 22 feet further this week than last to record a distance of 24.75m while throwing the shot put three free more than a week ago with a mark of 9.68m. Coleman's shot put of 7.00m was more than two feet better than the opener and her discus (21.47m) was also a seven-plus foot improvement.
