Raiders Rewind: January 2026
Winter/spring crossover season in full effect
MOORPARK, Calif. (Jan. 31, 2026) – A new calendar year brings about seven new Moorpark College athletics teams to join the successes of two basketball teams already competing this winter. Western State Conference (WSC) play is at its midway point for hoops and the baseball, softball, men's volleyball and women's beach volleyball seasons have already kicked off. Track and Field hosts its opening meet of the season this weekend and women's wrestling returns to the mat as well. Read below for updates on each program.
Men's Basketball (15-8, 6-1 WSC)
The second half of the 2025-26 WSC season started with an overtime thriller in which the Raiders came out on top of Santa Barbara City College, 70-67, to stretch the MC win-streak to five games. Moorpark held a five-point lead with 10 minutes remaining, but by the 6:07 mark the squads were squared up at 50-50. Both sides had opportunities before the regulation buzzer, but the teams sat knotted at 57-57 when the second half ended. SBCC struck first in OT, but the visiting team chipped away. In the final 1:11, Moorpark outscored Santa Barbara 6-1 to secure the victory. Roman Finney tied the teams at 66 and Tidiane Sy hit back-to-back free-throws before Finney and Josh Castaniero each added one of his own FT to the team tally.
Four different players scored double figures with Sy and Dominique Brutus sharing the team-high of 13 points while Brutus added 10 rebounds for a double-double. Castaniero totaled nine rebounds, six assists, three steals and two blocks in the win.
MC is home on Wednesday, Feb. 4 when the Raiders look to avenge their only loss, 84-76, of the WSC season when they host Ventura for a 5:00 p.m. tip-off.
Women's Basketball (20-3, 7-0 WSC)
The Raiders opened the second half of WSC play with a 68-51 win over Santa Barbara City College to remain undefeated at 7-0 in league action while extending their win-streak to nine on the season. MC took a slim 13-12 lead after the first quarter and trailed 28-27 entering halftime. Out of the locker room, the Raiders rolled the Vaqueros, outscoring the host 29-7 to open a lead they would not relinquish despite being outscored 16-12 in the final frame. Maleyni Tolliver exploded for 27 points to lead all players, adding eight rebounds, which was also a team-high. She went 9-for-14 from the field and 9-for-10 at the free-throw line, adding a steal and a block. Keilani Peralta posted a 17-point, six-rebound game and Hannah Lising added 12 points, seven rebounds, three steals and a block in the win.
Moorpark returns to Raider Pavilion on Wednesday, Feb. 4 to host Ventura at 7:00 p.m. following the men's game.
Baseball (3-3, 0-0 WSC)
On the diamond, the Raiders have opened the season 3-3. The first victory of the season came on Jan. 27 when MC took down LA Harbor 5-2. The Blue and White followed with back-to-back wins over Rio Hondo with a 12-6 win at home followed by a 7-2 final on the road on Friday. In the home opener, first-year Raiders centerfielder Buddy Onoszko had a day, going 5-for-5 with four runs and an RBI as well as two stolen bases. Chris Hemphill also had a solid day, going 3-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored. Cody Burrow (1-0) recorded the win, not allowing a run in 3.0 innings. Greg Lopez came in to toss 4.2 in relief, striking out four. The following day, MC again looked to Onoszko who supplied two more hits and a run. He tripled in both games. Jaxson Herron and Callan Hirtensteiner each had two hits apiece as well and Hirtensteiner scored twice with an RBI. Braden Huber earned his first career victory, throwing 5.0 innings, striking out two and allowing just one earned run. The squad fell to Cypress on Saturday.
Baseball looks to bounce back on Tuesday, Feb. 3 when the Raiders host Fullerton for a 1:00 p.m. first pitch.
Women's Beach Volleyball
The Raiders opened their spring season at home with two wins. Moorpark is on the road on Friday, Feb. 6.
Softball (2-2, 0-0 WSC)
Through four games this spring, the Raiders have had some ups and downs. The opening series saw the Blue and White mercy LA Valley twice, winning 14-2 and 15-1 on their home field in a pair of 5 inning games. The team is batting .307 as a unit through four games. Morgan Casillas is hitting at a .625 clip with five hits in eight at-bats. She notched a double and has three RBIs, three walks and four runs scored. Lily Kougher has scored six runs. Rylee Redmond has also scored four times and has a team-leading three stolen bases. Casillas and Kougher each have two SBs. Both Kougher and Kailey Greene are batting .571 with four hits in seven at-bats, and they have two and three RBIs apiece, respectively. Green has a triple while Kougher has a pair of doubles to date. Malia Plourde blasted a homerun for the Raiders as well.
Alyssa Morales is 2-0 in the circle in 15.1 innings pitched in four appearances. She has struck out 17 with 7.76 strike outs per seven innings.
Moorpark returns to the diamond on Tuesday, Feb. 3 when the Raiders host Bakersfield at 1:00 p.m.
Men's Track & Field | Women's Track & Field
The men's and women's track and field teams will open 2026 action on Friday at home when the Raiders hosts the Moorpark Multi & Season Opener. Competition begins at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 6 with a full day of events scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 7. Overall, MC will host three meets this season including the Moorpark Invitational on Friday, April 3 and WSC Championships on Friday, May 24. Both meets begin at 11:00 a.m.
Men's Volleyball (1-1, 0-0 WSC)
On Friday evening, the Raiders earned their first victory of 2026 by defeating Santiago Canyon in three sets. Reagan Sager hit at an incredible .750 clip with six kills in eight swings without an error while also adding four block assists to lead the team. Sean Nelson paced the pack with 11 kills followed by nine from Owen Peterson and eight from Sinjon Laughton. Oliver Boton handed out 33 assists in the match. The team combined for seven service aces, two apiece from Peterson and Nicholas Songco. Joey Nelson recorded six digs and Peterson added four in the sweep.
Moorpark returns to action on Tuesday when the Raiders host Golden West for a 6:00 p.m. first serve inside Raider Pavilion.
Women's Wrestling
While women's wrestling is a spring sport, the team did compete once in the fall. During that showing at the Meathead Movers Invitational at Cuesta College, the Raiders earned top honors with a combined 49.5 points. All 13 wrestlers who stepped on the mat for Moorpark, placed in the top-four of her respective weight class. Avalynn Ramos earned first place, going undefeated while both Emily Hernandez and Danna Arellano were finalists. The event afforded the freshmen class its first exposure to freestyle wrestling while serving as a valuable team-building weekend in Morro Bay.
The spring season will kick off on Saturday, Feb. 7 when the squad travels to Cerritos College for the Cerritos open. Expectations are high for the Raiders in 2026.
Overall, the 2025-26 Moorpark College Athletics shas enjoyed much success and the department hopes to add more accolades to its repertoire this spring.
