Football Flashback: Raiders Notch Come-From-Behind Victory
Raiders record first win of fall
RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. (Sept. 13, 2025) – After two tough losses to start the 2025 Moorpark College football campaign, the Raiders battled back to secure a 27-23 victory with under a minute to play at Chaffey College on Saturday, Sept. 13.
MC saw a 10-point advantage turn into a 23-20 deficit in the final 2:28 of the fourth quarter. The offense used eight plays to drive the ball 42-yards into the end zone, culminating with a 27-yard completion from Sirawn Evans to Jude Hooks, followed by a good point after kick from Valentino Lara to push the Raiders ahead 27-23 with the ultimate winning play. The defense held Chaffey down over the final 48 seconds, complete with a sack from Evan Watts.
Overall, Moorpark collected 269 yards of offense, 201 through the air and 68 on the ground. The Raiders were 3-for-3 on fourth down conversions in the game. A trio of quarterbacks, Evans, Aidan Karsh and Dylan Hassid combined for a 19-for-41 evening with a pair of touchdown passes from Evans. Both passing scores came on completions to Hooks who nabbed seven catches for 121 total yards, including a 53-yard connection with Karsh. Karsh rushed for a 2-yard touchdown to put the Raiders ahead 14-10 in the third quarter. Angel Urban was another active target, hauling in five catches for 42 yards. Carson Green led the foot game with 10 carries for 50 yards with his longest scurry marked at 12 yards. Evans also rushed for 27 yards.
Defensively, Nolan Story snagged a pair of interceptions for 17 yards and DJ Richmond also tallied a pick. The Raiders combined for five sacks, 1.5 coming from Nick Andrade. Tyler Woods and Da Vaughn Robinson each had a solo sack and Mene Vaaalii teamed up with Andrade for a half a sack. Woods and Story shared a team-high with nine tackles apiece while Robinson had eight.
The kicking game accounted for nine points from Lara. He was 3-for-3 in point after attempts and went 2-for-3 on field goals, connecting for both 40-yard and 29-yarders on consecutive possessions to close the third quarter and open the fourth. Karratti Kala kicked off six times, averaging 43.7 yards per kickoff and Jake O’leary punted four times for 116 total yards in the game.
In the season opener, MC fell 46-30 to Fullerton. The Raiders produced 401 yards of offense, led by a 20-for-43 showing from Karsh who threw a trio of touchdowns. Hassid added another TD on 2-for-3 passing. Hooks hauled in two TDs with his longest reception a 55-yarder. He had five catches for 118 yards. Ryan Yenokian converted his only catch into a 58-yard touchdown and Dameian Hernandez accounted for the other TD. Lara converted a pair of extra points in the game. Watts collected eight tackles while Aurelio Medrano and Adrian Szabo finished with seven apiece. Robinson had two sacks for a loss of a combined 15 yards while Shyne Kililikane snagged an intercaption.
The second game of the year was a tough for the Raiders who were shutout 23-0 by Cerritos. MC bounced back with the win over Chaffey and will try to remain in the win column this weekend.
Moorpark (1-2, 0-0 NNC) returns to the friendly confines of Griffin Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 20 when the Raiders host Ventura College (3-0, 0-0 NNC) in the National Northern Conference of the Southern California Football Association opener for both teams. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m.
