Women’s Volleyball and Cartwright to be Honored by CCCAA
The Moorpark College women’s volleyball team was named 2012-13 CCCAA Scholar Team. This honor goes to one team in the state in each sport offered by the CCCAA. The State Scholar Team award is based 80 % on academic achievement and 20% on athletic success. Moorpark softball player Taylor Cartwright was named to the 2013 CCCAA Scholar Athlete Honor Roll. Cartwright and the 2012 MC volleyball team will be honored at the CCCAA annual convention in Los Angeles on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at the Renaissance Hotel. The 2012 women’s volleyball team had 15 team members, who’s average GPA was 3.40. Three of the fifteen recorded a perfect 4.0 GPA (Brittnie Blanchard, Samantha Murphy and Brittany Sharpe). The 15 team members completed an average of 15.6 units. On the court, the Raider spikers were 8-2 in the WSC, and finished in 2nd place. This is Moorpark volleyball’s second State Scholar Team award in the last three years. The Raiders are coached by Steve Burkhart and assisted by Aaron Hedland. Taylor Cartwright, two-year softball starting shortstop, was the epitome of scholar athlete in her time at MC. She earned 68 units at MC, with a perfect 4.0 GPA while earning her AA in Kinesiology. Seventeen of those units were earned in the Honors Program. Cartwright was the 2013 Team Captain, and a member of the Captain’s Council. She was named to the All-WSC team, and helped lead the Raiders to the 2013 WSC Championship. After being admitted to all seven universities she applied to, Cartwright selected Chapman University to continue her softball career.
